Important Information for our Coeliac Guests

We want to ensure we communicate gluten risks to you with total transparency. Many of our dishes are created using ingredients that do not naturally contain gluten; these are highlighted on our menu as (G) and (GA).

However, we must confirm that we are not a gluten-free environment. While we have rigorous cross-contamination procedures in place (detailed below), we handle gluten (including wheat flour) in our kitchen. Because our dishes are not lab-tested to verify they contain less than 20ppm of gluten, they may not be suitable for those with Coeliac disease or high sensitivity.

Your health is our priority. If you feel our environment does not meet your safety requirements, we sincerely apologise. We still want you to be part of the party, so please contact us in advance to discuss how we can best accommodate you, including sourcing certified pre-prepared gluten-free options when needed.

Allergen Disclaimer

Whilst we take extensive steps to ensure that the list of allergen ingredients on our menus and allergen matrix is accurate, we cannot say that any dish on our menus is ‘free-from’ any allergen, but only that it does not contain that allergen as an ingredient.

All of our food and drink is prepared on premises where nuts, cereals containing gluten, and other allergens are present.  While we have rigorous cross-contamination procedures in place (detailed below), we cannot guarantee that our dishes and drinks will be 100% allergen free from a specific allergen. This is also known as ‘may contain’. If you suffer from sensitive trace reactions for any allergen please be aware that we are unable to guarantee full suitability.

Our allergen information relates to dishes which contain the 14 main allergens which are required to be declared under legislation and as advertised by our suppliers. Dishes may contain additional ingredients which you could be allergic / intolerant to and which we have not highlighted, and our menu descriptions do not include all ingredients used in the dish.

Our staff are specifically trained on the 14 legal allergens. If you have an allergy outside of these, please contact us 48 hours in advance so we can check our full ingredient specifications for you.

Even if you have consumed a particular dish on a previous visit, it is important to make your choices based on the current allergen content of dishes as ingredients may change due to adjustments by our suppliers.

If you require a dish that is ‘free from’ one of the 14 allergens or have an allergy that relates to a food that is not one of the 14 main allergens, we would require a pre-order at least 48 hours prior to your visit, so we can deal with your allergy safely.  Please call us on 01484 862912 to speak to our friendly reception team.

The Allergen Safety Process

Once we are aware of your allergy:

  • You will be provided with a copy of the allergen matrix to help you with your choices.  The Restaurant Manager is trained in allergen awareness and will answer most questions.  Any questions they can’t answer will be taken to the Head Chef.
  • Your order will be taken and given to the Head Chef by the Restaurant Manager and your allergy will be further discussed with the Head Chef.
  • The recipe cards will be consulted to make sure any hidden allergens are removed from the dish as well as the obvious ones.
  • Your food will be prepared in a section of the kitchen that is away from the rest of the kitchen and which is cleaned and sanitised before and after every use.
  • Your food will be prepared carefully by chefs who have training in minimising cross contamination and with single-use protective wear, being overseen by the Head Chef. They will use separate tools and utensils that are only used for allergenic foods and are cleaned and stored after every use.
  • The food will be brought to your table directly by the Restaurant Manager.
